The Island of Misfit Mamas

Make Your Mess Your Message

Not everyone is blessed with a village. Nor is it easy to find one. I’ve been looking for one since before my son was born. The path we’ve followed since his birth hasn’t been linear, nor does it appear it’ll be that way for the foreseeable future. Trying to find a village has been hard to come by.

After all, you never know if someone else may be trying to make their way through a mess similar to yours. No two situations may be alike, but there will always be enough similarities that will bond individuals together. Each village is as unique as the individuals that make up the village.

The goal is to help as many mamas as possible to find their village, their place in the world, a world that can seem very cold at times. A village should be seen as a right, not a privilege. Raising a child is hard enough as it is and being made to feel like an outsider just because you’re seen as ‘different’ shouldn’t even be happening.

Speak up, Speak Out

‘If we are to better the future, we must disturb the present.’

~ Catherine Booth

No one knows what goes on behind closed doors. That’s the way they intended it to be. Create an image that everyone believes. A persona so solid that it’s impenetrable. But behind the mask lies a sinister secret. One that, if it got out, no one would believe. After all, how can this individual with an impeccable record be…so evil? There are stories that go untold or denied as true simply because abuse that is so malicious, so psychological, it comes across as unbelievable. No one can be that evil, right? That’s when it’s time to speak up! The more people talk about what goes one behind closed doors, the more likely help will become accessible (hopefully) for those going an invisible form of abuse.

In order to combat abuse, it needs to be made easier for abuse victims to speak up. And believed. No two situations are exactly the same. Nor is the way out straightforward. If it were THAT easy, there are many who would have done so sooner. Things need to change. Disturb the present way of doing things, make a better future.
